Baku. 17 May. REPORT.AZ/ The population of Azerbaijan will continue to grow and by 2050 will reach 11 mln people.
Report informs, this is stated in the report of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) of the United Nations.
The organization emphasizes that the process of urbanization will continue throughout the world. By the middle of the current century, the proportion of urban residents in the world will be 68% (today - 55%). Similar processes will occur in Azerbaijan.
Today, the share of urban population in republic makes 56%. According to the forecasts of UNDESA experts, by 2025 urban residents will make 59% of the total number, and by 2050 over 70% of population of Azerbaijan will live in cities.
The report also emphasizes that the population in Azerbaijan is almost 10 million, whereas by 2025 the mark will exceed 10.5 million and by 2050 year will reach 11 million.
