UN ready to assist Azerbaijan in cleaning Okhchuchay River

The UN official has commented on the toxic waste pollution of the Okhchuchay River, which flows through the territory of Azerbaijan’s Zangilan district and into the Araz River, which was subjected to environmental terror by Armenia, Report informs.

Head of News and Media at the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Keishamaza Rukikaire told Report that the UN wasn’t aware of the problem.

Azerbaijan didn’t contact the UNEP on this issue, she noted. However, if necessary, the environmental program, within the UN’s experience and powers, is ready to assist Azerbaijan. The UN can do this under the coordination and guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, she said.

The UNEP coordinates the environmental activities of its member states, implements ecological policies and practices of developed countries.
