The Armenian leadership expected that the meeting of the UN Security Council, dedicated to the situation around the Lachin road, would not bring the results they needed. Given that the international law supports Azerbaijan, the Armenian side knew that there would be no positive outcomes, Turkish political scientist Engin Ozer told Report.
"This step was taken by the Armenian government to prepare people for the fact that the process of reintegration of the Armenian population of the Garabagh region is launched and inevitable. Pashinyan will prepare and announce that Armenia has made a last attempt to appeal to an international organization, but it has failed. His logic is simple: by these actions, he is trying to reduce tension among the ultra-nationalist Armenian forces," the expert believes.
He stressed that, in fact, the whole world, including Armenia itself, recognizes that Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan.
"The Armenian authorities know this, they are well aware, but in order to explain to their people, they were forced to make such a statement. Although the result of the Security Council meeting was known, its convocation was necessary only so that the Armenians could see the world's reaction," Ozer said.
