Turkish parliamentary commission approves Shusha Declaration

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) has approved the Shusha Declaration.

The Shusha Declaration, which was put for discussions at the Foreign Affairs Committee with the signature of the chairman of Speaker Mustafa Sentop, was assessed as a historic document containing fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as common national interests, Report informs.

At the parliamentary plenary meeting, chaired by Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission Akif Cagatay Kilic, parliamentarians, government officials and experts shared their views on the historic significance of the Shusha Declaration.

Chairman of the Turkish-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Friendship Group Samil Ayrim, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Salim Kiran, and others noted that the entire Turkish state and people, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have always stood by Azerbaijan in its just cause. It was noted that the Shusha Declaration is the most accurate historic document adopted in the current international geopolitical situation.

The new geopolitical situation in the region, which has emerged as a result of the victory of the heroic Azerbaijani Army in the 44-day war under the leadership of Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, was assessed as a historic chance for all parties. It was noted that Turkey will continue to stand by Azerbaijan, as in the glorious Patriotic War. The Shusha Declaration fully reflects the Azerbaijani-Turkish fraternal relations.

The speakers noted that proceeding from the Shusha Declaration, joint steps will be taken with Armenia on the issues of normalization, the opening of the Zangazur corridor, and multilateral cooperation in the region.

Following the discussions, the commission approved the Shusha Declaration and recommended that the document be discussed at a plenary session of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

The Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey was signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on June 15, 2021, in Shusha.

The Azerbaijani parliament approved the Shusha Declaration on February 1.
