Svante Cornell: By liberating its territories, Azerbaijan has changed situation in region

Azerbaijan is a leading country in the region, Director of the Institute for Security and Development Policy Svante Cornell (Sweden) told Report.

According to him, Azerbaijan's victory in the second Karabakh war and the liberation of its territories changed the situation in the South Caucasus region.

"Proceeding from the president's speech, Azerbaijan is ready to move forward. Azerbaijan's position on various political issues was demonstrated, it was noted that the country builds its foreign policy in accordance with national interests," S. Cornell said, commenting on the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with participants in the international conference "South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation", which took place today at the ADA University in Baku.

According to him, peace in the region depends not only on one country.

"Peace in the South Caucasus must be sustainable, but it does not depend on only one actor. It depends on regional actors, in this case, Armenia is meant, as well as on major regional powers that undermine the world because of their own interests."
