Steinmeier highlights talks with Ilham Aliyev in Berlin

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier published a statement on his talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which took place on Tuesday in Berlin, Report informs.

"[The] discussion focused on bilateral relations, the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and current regional and international issues," according to the statement shared on the German president's official Facebook page.

He welcomed the progress made in the peace and normalisation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and encouraged further steps towards a comprehensive peace agreement.

Bilateral cooperation between Germany and Azerbaijan was also on the agenda. "Steinmeier underlined Azerbaijan's role as an important partner in the South Caucasus, particularly in the fields of energy and economic affairs," reads the statement.
