Signatures being collected for petition against draft pro-Armenian resolution of French Senate

Azerbaijanis are collecting signatures under a petition to the Senate and people of France in connection with the anti-Azerbaijani resolution proposed for consideration by the upper house of the parliament of this country. More than half of the necessary votes have already been collected - more than 32,500, Report informs.

Six members of the Senate proposed a resolution, which is scheduled for November 15, which contains accusations against Azerbaijan and calls on France and other EU countries to impose an embargo on gas and oil imports from Azerbaijan.

“The proposed resolution is an absolutely one-sided and biased view of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. The authors protect the interests of only one side of the conflict - the Armenian side. The document completely ignores the victims, the loss of loved ones, the pain and aspirations of the other side - millions of ordinary Azerbaijanis. And only one side - Azerbaijani is presented as guilty,” the authors of the petition say.

France is known to be home to one of the largest Armenian diasporas in the world, they noted. At the same time, the vast majority of these French citizens have never been to Armenia and know nothing about the conflict. Many of them perceive what is happening in the South Caucasus on the basis of information disseminated by the media, which reflects the position of the predominantly Armenian side of the conflict.

“Some politicians are trying to use these feelings for their own purposes. That’s how similar draft resolutions appear in the Senate,” they added.
