Russian media: Heydar Aliyev left an imprint on the history of both Azerbaijan and Russia

Today marks exactly one hundred years since the birth of Heydar Aliyev, a Soviet and Azerbaijani politician who left an imprint on the history of both Azerbaijan and Russia, Report informs citing an article on URA.RU.

"The son of an ordinary railway worker rose to the highest echelons of power in the CPSU, becoming the curator of several industries at once and the head of one of the main construction projects of the USSR in the 1970-80s," the publication says.

Why was one of the stations of the East Siberian Railway named after him? It was the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, who once headed the project for the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

"Although Heydar Aliyev had no direct relationship with the railways, he was able to establish a project management system," said Vasily Novikov, a historian and project manager at the Tavolga Foundation.

"Heydar Aliyev was a very effective manager, as they would say now. The task there was precisely in building a high-quality management system. His greatest achievement, in my opinion, is the creation of a vertical of relationship with people who were directly involved in construction on the ground," the historian noted.
