Russia and Azerbaijan are set to create a working group to collaborate on ecological issues, with a special focus on addressing the problem of the Caspian Sea's shallowing and protecting its biological resources, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Russia.
This matter was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Chairman of Russian State Duma Alexey Gordeev and Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Moscow, Rahman Mustafayev.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are consistently developing towards strategic partnership and alliance, based on mutual respect and good-neighborly traditions. The main priorities of cooperation are reflected in the "Declaration on Allied Interaction" signed in Moscow on February 22, 2022.
It was also noted that interstate contacts are very intensive at all levels. The ambassador highlighted that more than 50 mutual high-level visits have been carried out this year.
Several important agreements have been reached, particularly in the economic sphere. These include the development of projects in the fuel and energy complex, the expansion of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), and the establishment of a joint Azerbaijan-Russian university in Baku on a parity basis, using the resources of St. Petersburg University and an Azerbaijani university.
Cultural cooperation between the two countries was also touched upon during the meeting. Ambassador Mustafayev informed the State Duma Deputy Chairman that 2025 will be the Year of Azerbaijani Culture in Russia. He expressed confidence that the events and projects within this framework will contribute to further rapprochement between the two countries and peoples.
