Azerbaijan is an important regional player from the Black Sea to the Middle East, and the implementation of significant regional projects between Baku and Bucharest in the field of energy contributes to rapprochement and mutual benefit, Romanian political analyst Mihai Isac told Report.

First of all, these are plans to implement a project that provides for the transfer of green energy from the Caspian region to Europe, in which, in addition to Azerbaijan and Romania, Georgia and Hungary also participate.

“Romania has tried for years to forge a strategic partnership with Baku and many in Bucharest would like to extend this kind of cooperation to other fields also: economic, social, political and cultural,” he noted.

Romania hopes to attract more investment from Azerbaijan and regards Baku as a gateway to Caucasus and Central Asia, he said.

"Between Romania and Azerbaijan, there are no problems and we have mutual geopolitical friends like Türkiye and Israel. Baku also can play a crucial role in the EU-Central Asia relations, including in the energy field."

The expert noted that Baku also needs good relations with the EU countries, most of which are also members of NATO.

The strategic partnership of Baku-Ankara is well studied in the diplomatic circles of the EU and is proof that Azerbaijan is an important regional player from the Black Sea to the Middle East and Central Asia, he concluded.
