During the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2025), the realities of Western Azerbaijan were discussed at a roundtable titled "Parliamentary Diplomacy in Global Governance."
According to Report, the event was moderated by Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee. Key participants included Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC); Ramil Hasan, Deputy Chairman of the WAC; Akhliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Healthcare Committee of the Milli Majlis and the Council of Elders of the WAC; Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of Turkic States (PA OTS); and Rolando Gonzalez Patricio, Chairman of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliamentary Assembly.
Asaf Hajiyev highlighted the global migration crisis, noting that there are currently 110 million refugees worldwide, the highest number in recorded history. He recalled that, as a result of Armenia’s territorial claims in the 1990s, one in ten Azerbaijanis was displaced from their homes. Despite the end of the war, these individuals cannot return due to the destruction caused by Armenians. He emphasized that such situations are not unique to Azerbaijan but are also happening in many other countries globally. Hajiyev also mentioned that Azerbaijan allocates billions of manat annually for reconstruction in Karabakh, an impressive amount for any single country.
Ramil Hasan noted that between 1987 and 1991, around 300,000 Azerbaijanis were forcibly expelled from Armenia. "This was one of the largest ethnic cleansings in modern history. Their right to return should be recognized as an essential part of the peace process within the framework of human rights and the protection of national minorities," he said. Hasan added that the WAC continues its efforts to protect the rights and freedoms of these people under international law, fully respecting Armenia's territorial integrity and the principles outlined in the UN Charter.
