The world is going through a tough period and this is unfortunately the reality of today, Miles Hansen, the President and a board director for The Stirling Foundation, told the panel session themed “The importance of cultural and creative industries in ensuring modern development trends and economic diversification” held on the sidelines of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku Thursday, Report informs.
According to him, all this stems from the rise of nationalism and tribalism.
Hansen noted that nationalism is not patriotism, on the contrary, it is selfishness towards other countries.
The problem of tribalism exists in Europe, the Middle East and the United States, he said, adding that this approach leads to a political crisis.
Hansen went on to say that nationalists are trying to change the system and polarization is trying to divide people.
He noted that efforts are taken for peace and if someone does not want peace, he has no place in this forum.
Hansen added that each person can become a unifying force by changing the global trend.
He noted that culture and creative industries strengthen connections between people.
Hansen recalled the words of President Ilham Aliyev that it is important to be able to build a better common future.
