The position of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the 44-day war was very clear, and everyone watching him understood that the truth was on his side, Azerbaijani MP, chairman of the Russian community Mikhail Zabelin said during an online roundtable discussion dedicated to the results of the year in Russian-Azerbaijani relations and the role of President Ilham Aliyev in the development of modern Azerbaijan, Report informs.
"The president's speeches united the people. The people were waiting for every step," he said.
The parliament member stressed that the Azerbaijani army also played a significant role in the triumph in the 44-day war: "Many people wounded during the war wanted to be cured as soon as possible to return to the front."
Zabelin also compared the attitudes towards Russians and other nationalities in Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"For 30 years, we have always said that Russians and other nationalities are respected in Azerbaijan," he said, noting that in the meantime, Russian flags were being burned in Armenia.
