Poland's MFA: Polish presidency to foster confidence-building activities between EU and Azerbaijan

Polish presidency will foster confidence-building activities between the EU and Azerbaijan, Poland's Foreign Ministry told Report.

The ministry said there are several spheres in which the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan can be expanded and deepened, including green energy, infrastructural projects, security and tourism.

"Azerbaijan is a key partner in the South Caucasus region. Developing deeper, more constructive and forward-looking relations with Azerbaijan is important for energy diversification and EU security. Polish presidency will foster confidence-building activities between UE and Azerbaijan. Cooperation between EU and Baku should not be limited to the economy. The EU represents a unique model of economic, social and cultural development that can be useful in Azerbaijan's modernization process. We hope EU and Azerbaijan could quickly sign the virtually completed new and updated framework agreement with the EU. This would facilitate, among other things, the development of bilateral cooperation, including economic cooperation," the ministry noted.

It also highly valued Azerbaijan's participation in the Eastern Partnership: "The Eastern Partnership policy should be maintained and preserved. It should be used to strengthen EU-Azerbaijan cooperation, but also in a regional context. For example, under this program it will be possible to finance energy and infrastructure projects linking Central Asia with Europe through Azerbaijani territory."
