Hungarian Ambassador: Our cooperation with Azerbaijan is strategic

Hungary is one of the countries that declared a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.

Report quotes the Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Viktor Szederkenyi, as saying during an online lecture organized by ADA University.

He noted that these relations strengthened at the level of two heads of state.

"Of course, political cooperation is an important component of our relations. We have an intergovernmental commission, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We are developing our political relations not only bilaterally but also within various organizations. This is primarily the EU. Moreover, Hungary is an observer in the Council of Turkic-speaking States, where we also actively develop our relations in various areas. Opening of the organization's office in Budapest also contributed to this process."

Besides, the diplomat noted the particular importance of economic cooperation in Azerbaijani-Hungarian relations.

"From this standpoint, we can recall the purchase of US Chevron's share by the Hungarian MOL Group oil and gas company in the development of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) block of fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline. It indicates the interest of Hungarian business in the oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan. We are talking not only about trade but also about mutual projects, in particular in agriculture."

Szederkenyi, also stressed the importance of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, noting that, the government of Hungary annually allocates 200 scholarships for Azerbaijani students.
