'No French citizen is in danger in Azerbaijan', French honorary MP says

The statement by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs warning against travel to Azerbaijan is unfair and absolutely unfounded, according to Jean-Luc Reitzer, a former member of the French National Assembly and an honorary deputy.

Speaking to Report's French bureau, Reitzer expressed his disbelief at the strict travel warning issued by France. "When I first heard about it, I thought it was a joke. Such an unjustified decision from France is incredible and unacceptable," he said.

The honorary MP, who has visited Azerbaijan multiple times, strongly recommends the country to those around him. "I declare that the French media is trying to misrepresent Azerbaijan. I suggest that the French people go to Azerbaijan themselves, get acquainted with the country, and form their own opinion," Reitzer stated. He emphasized that "no French citizen is in danger in Azerbaijan."

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also sharply condemned Paris's decision, calling the French MFA's appeal "unequivocally unfair and baseless."
