MP: Initiatives of Ilham Aliyev accepted by UN at the highest level

"Azerbaijan's efforts in the fight against coronavirus last year and year are highly appreciated within the country, in the region, and internationally."

Rashad Mahmudov, Deputy Chairman of the Health Committee of the Milli Majlis, a member of the Board of the New Azerbaijan Party, told Report commenting on the adoption of the resolution entitled " Ensuring equal, affordable, timely and universal access to vaccines against COVID-19" at the initiative of Azerbaijan as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement within the framework of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

According to him, President Ilham Aliyev made a global initiative in the fight against COVID-19 last year: "the head of our state stressed the importance of international efforts to ensure fair distribution of the vaccine in the world and accessibility for each community. President Ilham Aliyev's far-sighted thoughts are accepted by the UN at the highest level today. It confirms the right position of Azerbaijan in the fight against the pandemic."

The MP said that Armenia is concerned about Azerbaijan's growing weight in the international arena and its new diplomatic successes: "The resolution was adopted without considering any of the arguments put forward by the Armenian representative at the international event. Armenia, as always, has taken the wrong position in the global fight against COVID-19, which is a step against not only Azerbaijan but all humanity. This position is not well received by the international community. The Armenians showed their true colors in the region and in the world with non-constructive and narrow-minded positions. Although the world does not know, the reason for such an approach is well known to us, since the President of Azerbaijan put forward the initiative to prepare a resolution and hold the event. Today, the position and initiatives of the head of state are supported and accepted by the most influential international organizations.

On March 23, the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on "Ensuring equal, affordable, timely and universal access to vaccines against COVID-19" at the initiative of Azerbaijan as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement." The document draws attention to the negative impact of the unfair and unequal distribution of COVID-19 vaccines among developed and developing countries on human rights, which is the main obstacle to overcoming the pandemic and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Agenda's goals. Emphasizing the importance of global solidarity and multilateral cooperation in overcoming the pandemic, the resolution noted the importance of the special session of the UN General Assembly on the COVID-19 pandemic held on December 3-4, 2020, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement.
