Moratinos: Despite various opinions, Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 was at high level

Azerbaijan successfully hosted the COP29 climate conference. Despite various opinions, COP29 was held at a high level under Azerbaijan's hosting, said Miguel Angel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Report informs.

Moratinos made the remark during his meeting with Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), in Portugal.

He appreciated Pashazada's participation in the 10th UNAOC Global Forum, themed "United in Peace: Restoring Trust, Reshaping the Future," held in Cascais, Portugal. The official emphasized the great significance of the wise thoughts and approaches of the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office.

Congratulating Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazada on the successful holding of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders within the framework of COP29, Moratinos expressed his satisfaction with the positive feedback he received from various participants and delegations about this event, which he personally attended. He noted the immense importance of the extensive visit of religious leaders to Karabakh.

Moratinos specifically highlighted that both global events are the logical result and successful manifestation of the wise policy and global thinking of Azerbaijani Leader Ilham Aliyev.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazada, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Moratinos for the global event. He also conveyed his sincere thanks to UN Secretary-General António Guterres for his video address to the Global Summit of Religious Leaders within the framework of COP29.

Moratinos mentioned that Sheikh-ul-Islam would have the opportunity to personally express these thanks to the UN Secretary-General during the 10th Global Forum. He also noted the crucial importance of the plenary session, where Sheikh-ul-Islam would deliver speeches, entitled "Two decades of dialogue for humanity: Reflecting on lessons learned and forging a path forward," as well as the "Global conference on safeguarding religious sites.

In response to a question from the UNAOC official about the possibility of Armenians who left Karabakh visiting their ancestors' graves, it was stated that this issue could only be resolved within the framework of Azerbaijani legislation.

At the 10th Global Forum dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the UNAOC, Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazada proposed holding a global forum in the future where religious leaders would participate alongside political leaders and the creation of an Advisory Council of Religious Leaders within the framework of the UNAOC. Moratinos appreciated and welcomed these proposals.
