MIR secretariat spokesperson: Memorandum with BIG expands international platform for decolonization

The signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and representatives of Guadeloupe is of great importance for promoting the topic of decolonization at the international level, Nicole Regent-Brisset, a representative of the secretariat of the International Movement for Reparations in Guadeloupe (MIR), told journalists on the sidelines of the international conference “Towards the Decolonization of Guadeloupe: Challenges and Perspectives,” which is being held in Baku, Report informs.

“We are sincerely grateful for this memorandum and the support we receive from the Baku Initiative Group. Thanks to Azerbaijan, our struggle has become known throughout the world. Now the international community will know what the people of Guadeloupe have gone through and continue to go through,” she noted.

According to her, despite the people’s desire for freedom, the decolonization process remains extremely difficult due to political pressure from France.

"It is difficult to achieve independence because France remains a powerful colonial power. We ask, we insist, we try to defend the right to independence, but the French government refuses to grant us this right," she stressed.
