MFA official: Co-op with ECO members among main priorities for Azerbaijan

Cooperation with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member countries in the transport and energy sectors is one of the main priorities for Azerbaijan, said Rovshan Mirzayev, Deputy Head of the Economic Cooperation Department at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Mirzayev made the remark during a panel discussion on "Azerbaijan and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO): Opportunities and perspectives."

He stated that Baku is the most active member of the organization after its founders: "In 1992, with the membership of Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries, ECO received a new breath. After becoming a member, Azerbaijan has chaired the ECO twice. Cooperation with ECO is very important because we have significant allies in the organization. We have always been and will be in contact with the member countries of the organization. For us, cooperation in the fields of transport and energy is among our main priorities."

The official also highlighted Azerbaijan's special role in the development of ECO: "There are several centers operating within this organization in Iran and Türkiye. At the same time, ECO's Clean Energy Center and Research Center will be established in Azerbaijan. Currently, the final completion work is underway."
