MFA: Charge brought against Azerbaijani citizen imprisoned in Iran changed

The charge brought against the Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli, who is imprisoned in Iran, has been changed, Aykhan Hajizada, head of the press service department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, said in response to the local media's question about Farid Safarli, an Azerbaijani citizen arrested in Iran, Report informs, citing MFA.

"After repeated requests to the Iranian side regarding the organization of the protection of the rights of our citizen, information about several lawyers from the other side was presented to the family of Farid Safarli by our Consulate General in Tabriz in accordance with the Iranian legislation and the requirements of the court process.

"In addition, although a request was addressed to the Iranian side about the dates of the court sessions and the participation of the officials of our Consulate General in the sessions, these requests were not answered by Iran and it was not possible to participate in the court sessions. Despite our appeals, the accused was not provided with an interpreter.

"Work is currently underway for Farid Safarli's parents to visit their son," Hajizada said.
