MFA: Azerbaijani citizens detained in Russia returned to their homeland

Three Azerbaijani citizens, who were detained in Russia on charges of violating migration laws, and allegedly forcibly attempted to be sent to a combat zone, have already been delivered to their homeland, reads a statement by spokesperson for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajizada, Report informs.

Hajizada noted that Elkhan Shirinov (born 1975), Vugar Maharramov (born 1982), and Nihad Rzayev (born 2004) were delivered to Azerbaijan on September 21 through the land border.

"Immediately after receiving information about the detention of our citizens in Chechnya, the Azerbaijani side sent a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Negotiations were held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other authorized bodies of the Russian Federation. In addition, our embassy contacted the detained citizens by phone," added the Foreign Ministry representative.

Earlier it was reported that three Azerbaijani citizens were detained in Chechnya (Russian Federation) on charges of violating migration laws. It became known that after their detention, they were forcibly involved in exercises in Grozny in order to send them to the combat zone in Ukraine.
