Azerbaijan shows a humane and civilized attitude towards the Armenian minority of Karabakh, the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elshad Iskandarov, said at the policy dialogue conference with the theme "The South Caucasus and the European Union – addressing challenges, seizing opportunities" in The Hague, the Netherlands, Report informs.
He responded to the attempts of Tatevik Hayrapetyan, a former deputy of the ruling "Civil Contract" Party of Armenia, to present the temporary closure of the Lachin road as "Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing against Karabakh Armenians."
Speaking at the event, the Ambassador-at-Large said that Azerbaijan showed a humane and civilized attitude towards the Armenian minority after taking control of the Lachin part of the border with Armenia: “In a few weeks, the local population, which was forcibly isolated by the separatist regime for more than 30 years, was able to contact the representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities, and there were no problems. This is the best way to build mutual trust.”
