Foreign ministers of five regional countries to issue joint statement in Istanbul, media say

Foreign ministers of five countries in the region will adopt a joint statement following the ministerial meeting of the regional "3+3" platform, which will take place on October 18 in Istanbul, Report informs referring to the TRT Haber.

In the statement, the parties will particularly emphasize the importance of resolving regional issues through direct dialogue between the parties, as well as peaceful settlement of political disputes based on the principles of the UN Charter - respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence, inviolability of borders, non-interference in internal affairs, and respect for human rights. In addition, the parties commit to expanding cooperation in various sectors of the economy, as well as on the issue of opening regional transport corridors.

It is also noted that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will emphasize Ankara's support for the process of concluding a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, parallel to which the process of normalizing relations between Türkiye and Armenia is also underway. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of the participating countries - Azerbaijan's Jeyhun Bayramov, Russia's Sergey Lavrov, Iran's Abbas Araghchi, and Armenia's Ararat Mirzoyan.

The "3+3" regional cooperation platform was created on the initiative of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye. However, Georgia refused to participate in this negotiation format. The first meeting at the level of deputy foreign ministers was held in Moscow, Russia in 2021, and the second meeting at the ministerial level was held in Tehran in 2023.
