President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is implementing a decisive and consistent policy in the South Caucasus, Russian political scientist, TV presenter, and public figure Maksim Shevchenko told Azerbaijani journalists in Moscow, Report informs.
Speaking about the efforts towards establishing peace in the region, the political scientist positively assessed the activities of the Azerbaijani government. "I am very optimistic about the firm and consistent policy formed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, including in relations with the Armenian people. He always says that Azerbaijan wants peace," Shevchenko emphasized.
Commenting on Russia's position in the South Caucasus, the political scientist stated that the Russian Federation does not want the region to become a plaything for others.
"Russia's position has been expressed quite precisely and clearly. We do not want the region to turn into a toy for Western satellites and agents. We want the states and peoples of the South Caucasus to come to an agreement among themselves, find a common path, and establish good neighborly relations. We do not want the South Caucasus to be a place where Western politicians ignite war and hatred," he noted.
