Lieberman: 'I'm proud I had honor to meet Heydar Aliyev'

None of the prominent political figures made such an impression from the first minute of their acquaintance as the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, Israeli Knesset member Avigdor Lieberman said while sharing his memories, Report informs referring to Vesti Israel.

“At various stages of my political career, I had the opportunity to meet with the President of the US, and with the Pope of Rome, and with the Chancellor of Germany, and with many other iconic figures in world politics. No one made such an impression from the first minute of meeting as Heydar Aliyev. His charm, manner of speaking, some special aristocracy, and at the same time, simplicity in communication made such a strong impression that sometimes it seemed that he had the talent of hypnotic influence on the interlocutor,” he said.

He noted that in August 1997, an Israeli delegation headed by the prime minister was in Baku for the first time, where he met with Heydar Aliyev.

“I am proud that I had the honor to meet with the outstanding leader Heydar Aliyev and to be at the forefront of establishing friendly bilateral relations between our countries, which, with the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel and the recent mutual visits of foreign ministers, have reached the full scope of diplomatic relations, which only exist between two friendly states,” he concluded.
