Lawyer: France plays with people's fate through illegal occupation of Mayotte

Despite considering Mayotte as its own territory, France treats the island's inhabitants in a starkly different manner, said Mohamed Rafsandjani Hassani, a lawyer and constitutionalist from the Comoros Union, Report informs.

Hassani made the remark during a conference titled "Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte Island of Comoros Union" organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).

In his speech, Hassani emphasized, "Today, there is an illegal occupation in Mayotte, and this occupation plays with people's fate. France considers its occupation legitimate and regards Mayotte as its own territory, but its treatment of the island's residents is entirely different. As a result of this policy, people are suffering. Therefore, independence is the only demand for living comfortably in Mayotte."
