The French and German embassies announced the laureate of the Franco-German prize for gender equality in Azerbaijan.

Report informs that during the presentation French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zacharie Gross stressed France's commitment to promoting and supporting gender equality. The diplomat said it is essential to combat domestic violence and gender stereotypes.

Gross added that this year France intends to hold a conference on gender equality, the largest in this field since 1995. "We also invited Azerbaijan to this conference, and we hope to get a positive response and close cooperation in this area," the French diplomat said.

Then the Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan, Andrea Maria Sühl, made a speech.

"Women must have equal opportunities. Their safety must be ensured, and there must be equal access to the labor market and equal wages. Gender equality requires constant efforts. This is one of the main priorities of German foreign policy ... It is wonderful and exciting to see so many active, talented and inspiring Azerbaijani women," said Andrea Maria Sühl.

The winner of the competition - Gunel Agabeyli, the founder of the Association of Azerbaijani Women in Science (AWIS) - was announced at the end of the event.
