Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan: historic opportunity for new phase of relations

"This year, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Both countries, which are considered to be the leading states in their regions, have made great progress in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields and achieved significant results in the past 30 years," says an article about the current level of relations between the two brotherly countries and future development prospects published on Kazinform Information Agency.

The article says that 2022 is a significant year for relations between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan because diplomatic ties were established between the two countries exactly 30 years ago, on August 27, 1992:

"It is true that, from the point of view of history, this is a relatively short period, but this period played an important role in the formation and development of interstate relations between the two brotherly countries."

The article states that the key points that determine the level of relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan include the Agreement "On Strategic Partnership and Alliance Relations" signed in Baku in 2005:

"This was the strategic document of a strategic nature in which the deep roots of friendship and alliance relations between the two countries were noted."

"Both post-Soviet countries openly support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity in words and actions. The multifaceted and balanced foreign policy of both countries demonstrates resilience to modern challenges, including the geopolitical turbulence observed in the world in recent months," the article emphasizes.

According to the article, today there is a wide contract-legal basis between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan: "It includes about 90 documents. As for the cooperation format, it is multilateral. Thus, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan actively cooperate in international and regional organizations such as the UN, OSCE, OIC, Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), TURKSOY, and Organization of Turkic States. In addition, close cooperation relations have been established between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan."

The article states that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are based not only on political but also on economic relations: "Azerbaijan is currently Kazakhstan's main commercial and economic partner in the South Caucasus."
