Jeyhun Bayramov receives new UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received Alex Heikens, the new Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the ministry.

Alex Heikens presented his Letter of Accreditation to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the new head of the Representation on his appointment and wished him success in his work. The minister noted that Azerbaijan had established mutually beneficial cooperation with UNICEF since the first years of independence. Jeyhun Bayramov also expressed confidence that the experience of the newly appointed Representative will contribute to further strengthening the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNICEF.

Alex Heikens, in turn, thanked Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for the reception and expressed satisfaction with his appointment to Azerbaijan. He said that successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNICEF in many areas would further continue. Besides, the head of the Representation stressed the importance of every child having access to quality education and spoke about the work done by UNICEF in this regard during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the consequences of Armenia's aggressive policy against Azerbaijan, including purposeful targeting of Azerbaijani civilians, houses, schools, and other civilian objects. He provided detailed information about the scale of the destruction in the liberated territories, the damage to cultural and religious monuments, the threat of landmines, the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated areas.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
