Jeyhun Bayramov: Armenia refuses to share complete information about mined areas

Armenia refuses to share complete and accurate information about mined areas. Also, Armenia is massively planting new mines in the territories of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at the European Union Eastern Partnership Foreign Ministers meeting on December 12.

He said that since August of this year, 2,728 anti-personnel mines produced in Armenia in 2021 has been discovered in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan. The area where Armenian-made minefield were recently buried has already been inspected by the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the leadership of the Russian-Turkish Joint Monitoring Center, as well as the military attachés of diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan:

"The continued planting of landmines which is a threat to peacebuilding and is considered a war crime undermines reconciliation efforts after 30 years of conflict."

The minister said that bringing mines to Azerbaijan territory is a misuse of the Lachin corridor, which is intended for humanitarian purposes only.
