On April 2, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Mohamed Abdelsalam, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Report informs.
At the meeting, issues of cooperation with the Council of Muslim Elders, preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), threats to Islam at the international level, and issues of religious solidarity were discussed.
Bayramov highlighted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the promotion of unity and solidarity in the Islamic world, and the importance of developing mutual support and cooperation at multilateral levels within the framework of bilateral, as well as regional and international organizations.
The minister talked about the projects carried out by Azerbaijan in the direction of promoting intercultural dialogue, including the fight against dangerous trends such as Islamophobia, and pointed out that the anti-Islam policy in some Western countries is a serious concern.
Mohamed Abdelsalam pointed out that Azerbaijan's contributions to cooperation in the Islamic world, as well as its position in the post-conflict period and being a party to the peace initiative, are considered commendable. In accordance with last year's experience, it was noted that it is important to put forward joint initiatives by religious leaders regarding the fight against climate change within the framework of COP29 this year.
During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
