Iran supports Azerbaijan's bid to join D-8

Iran supported Azerbaijan's application to join the D-8 Economic Cooperation Organization (Islamic eight).

Report informs citing Eurasia Review that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian expressed his support in a video conference speech at the 20th meeting of the D-8 Council of Ministers in Bangladesh.

"The expansion of the D-8 and adding new members can be a tool for realizing the organization's goals. We welcome the willingness and desire of our friendly and neighboring country, the Republic of Azerbaijan, to join D-8," he said.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Azerbaijan had applied for membership in D-8.
