Iran declares 4 Azerbaijani diplomats persona non grata - MFA

“As is known, at the beginning of April of this year, 4 employees of the Iranian Embassy in our country were declared persona non grata by the government of Azerbaijan due to activities that do not correspond to diplomatic status and contradict the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” said Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizade, while commenting on the fact that the diplomats of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran and the Consulate General in Tabriz were declared as persona non grata, Report informs.

“The Iranian side, in turn, a few days after this step of Azerbaijan, without any reason and citing the principle of reciprocity as an excuse, declared 2 employees of our country's Embassy in Iran and 2 employees of the Consulate General, who were evacuated in January, persona non grata. This step taken against our country harms the bilateral relations, which already have several problems,” he said.
