Within the framework of the International Baku Forum of Ombudsmen, a panel discussion titled "Support strategies for National Human Rights Organizations (NHRI) and Ombudsman Institutions in Climate Change Initiatives" was held on "Climate change and human rights: the role of ombudsmen and national human rights institutions."
Report informs that foreign guests speaking at the session discussed the problems caused by global climate change and their solutions from a human rights perspective, sharing their existing positive experiences in this field.
Speaking at the session, Plamenka Bojcheva, Director of the Agency for Protection of the Right to Free Access to Public Information of North Macedonia, stated that informing people about environmental protection is as important as protecting the environment itself: "Protecting the environment means protecting human well-being. Countries should share accessible information with the public about the importance of decisions made. This topic is sensitive. Steps should be taken in a way that will justify people's trust."
Danica Orcullo, Officer-in-Charge of the Policy, Planning and Support Division of the Freedom of Information-Program Management Office of the Philippines, spoke about the steps taken in the climate field in the Philippines: "We make extensive use of social media platforms to establish public relations. We pay special attention to media literacy on the topic of climate change. There are also some changes in our school programs regarding climate change. Several subjects on this topic are taught in primary and secondary schools."
