Int’l conference dedicated to heritage of Caucasus Jews underway in Baku

The international conference “The Heritage and Culture of the Jews in the North and East Caucasus” has started at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, Report informs.

More than 60 researcher scientists from Azerbaijan, Israel, Russia, US, France and other countries take part in the event.

“The theme of this conference is very important. Despite the suffering experienced by the Jews over the centuries, they were able to preserve their culture. The reason is that they don’t forget their past. They build their present and future on its basis,” rector of Azerbaijan Languages University Kamal Abdullayev said at the opening of the conference.

He noted that a new page has been opened in the Azerbaijani-Israeli relations.

“By touching on the topic of Jewish heritage, we are also talking about Azerbaijani culture, since a lot of Jews live in Azerbaijan, along with other peoples and nationalities,” he added.
