Incoming US ambassador to Azerbaijan: We will work for durable peace in this region

“I hope that during my time here we continue to see Azerbaijan advance and play an important role in the region and the world, as we work together for a durable and dignified peace in this region,” the incoming US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mark Libby, said in a video address, Report informs.

The ambassador said he looks forward to serving as the 11th US ambassador to Azerbaijan: “As a career member of the US Foreign Service, my previous tours included the US mission to the EU in Brussels, Poland, Cyprus, the Bahamas and Iraq. I have worked many years in Washington DC as well. I am originally from New England, a northeastern region of the US and I look forward to living in Baku with my wife, Danusia. Our son is in the US but looks forward to visiting us here and traveling around this beautiful country with us.”

Libby stressed that the United States embassy has supported Azerbaijan since its independence in 1991 and has witnessed amazing changes during these past 32 years: “I hope that during my time here we continue to see Azerbaijan advance and play an important role in the region and the world, as we work together for a durable and dignified peace in this region. In my short time here, I have had a chance to walk through Baku and see some of its iconic sites, including Azerbaijan’s historic Old Town and the beautiful, modern architecture of the Heydar Aliyev Center. I am eager to get to know these places and to see and taste more of what Azerbaijan has to offer. I have already tried the delicious Azerbaijani plov and dolma. Please let me know what other Azerbaijani dishes you recommend I try. I am looking forward to your suggestions to help me get to know Azerbaijan better.”
