Ilham Aliyev: US-Azerbaijan relations are at peak

US President Donald Trump is a peace-loving person capable of bringing peace, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, Report informs.

The head of state regretfully noted that during the 30-year occupation, the primary goal of the US Administration and the Minsk Group co-chairs was to freeze the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan: "Although there were UN resolutions on this issue, their goal was precisely to freeze it. They acted jointly and synchronously. The Minsk Group's activities were not aimed at resolving the conflict, but, on the contrary, at making the occupation permanent."

Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Donald Trump's approach was different, calling him a peace-loving man capable of bringing peace: "He has already stopped eight wars in different regions of the world. This is his vision, his character, and his policies. His role in the Azerbaijan-Armenia issue was also very important, because when we were in the final stages of negotiations, Trump and his team created a framework that made peace possible. They understood our concerns and recognized that the Zangazur Corridor was an important project because it would connect Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan region. In short, they worked very effectively and explained to Armenia that this peace was also essential for them."

Relations between Azerbaijan and the US are currently at a peak, Ilham Aliyev added.

According to the president, this is evidenced by his meeting with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, last August, which the Azerbaijani president described as "historic."

"Then came our meeting in Davos in January of this year, the invitation for Azerbaijan to become a founding member of the Board of Peace, established at the initiative of President Trump, the visit of Vice President J.D. Vance, and the signing of a joint charter in Baku on establishing a strategic partnership with the participation of the Vice President," the president emphasized.

According to him, Baku and Washington are currently actively working to implement all provisions of the Charter on Strategic Partnership.

"In particular, the established working groups are actively collaborating in areas such as trade, investment, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, energy security and connectivity, as well as defense and arms supplies," the Azerbaijani president noted.

Aliyev noted that the United States lifted all restrictions on arms supplies to Baku. Immediately afterward, he noted, the United Kingdom and EU member states made similar decisions.

"In my opinion, all of this very well characterizes the spirit of our bilateral relations, their content, and their potential for further development," the president concluded.
