Igor Babushkin: Azerbaijan - key partner of Russia's Astrakhan in Caspian region

Increasing the number of direct flights between Russia's Astrakhan and Azerbaijan's Baku will help strengthen economic ties between the Russian region and Azerbaijan, Governor of Russia's Astrakhan region, Igor Babushkin, wrote in his Telegram channel, Report informs.

"Our business centers actively contribute to tourism growth. Additionally, representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan participate in all international projects in our region. I proposed increasing the number of direct flights between Baku and Astrakhan to five times per week," said Babushkin, who was received by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev.

The governor expressed gratitude to the head of the Azerbaijani state and noted that strategically important issues were discussed during the meeting.

"We also discussed the important issue of the Caspian Sea's shallowing. On our president's instructions, Astrakhan experts analyzed the causes of sea level decline. The Azerbaijani side is also working in this direction. A bilateral working group has been created, and its first meeting was held on Monday in Baku. Azerbaijan is our most important partner in the Caspian region. I am grateful to Ilham Heydarovich for the opportunity of another meeting and attention to developing our multifaceted cooperation. We received support on all issues discussed," he noted.

He also emphasized that during the conversation, they discussed the initial results of implementing a comprehensive cooperation development program between Azerbaijan and the Astrakhan region, launched in May this year.
