How did Non-Aligned Movement support Azerbaijan during war?

"After Azerbaijan regained its independence, especially after the great leader Heydar Aliyev came to power, there were many invitations and attempts to involve Azerbaijan in this or that military bloc. But Azerbaijan did not want to be part of any bloc, pursuing an independent policy," MP Aydin Mirzazade told Report.

Speaking about Azerbaijan's membership in the Non-Aligned Movement and the benefit of the organization's activities for the state, the MP said that Azerbaijan's high prestige in the organization in a short time allowed it to chair the Non-Aligned Movement two years ago:

"Not only third-world countries but also influential and developed countries of Europe and America are members here. Membership in this movement has allowed Azerbaijan to move more freely in the international community without making any commitments and to establish close ties with third-world countries. This is the political, economic, and military-technical cooperation."

The MP reminded that during the presidency of our country, the problems and interests of the organization were repeatedly voiced to international associations through Azerbaijan: "Particularly, during the coronavirus pandemic, the President of Azerbaijan has repeatedly raised the issue of non-allocation or unequal allocation of vaccines for non-aligned countries. He made the world to work hard on this issue."

Mirzazade stressed that the Non-Aligned Movement supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in its documents. Membership and chairmanship of the movement have ensured the strong international support for Azerbaijan in the fight against Armenian aggression:

"The organization stressed the importance of the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijan. During the Patriotic War, the absolute majority of the movement's members were in solidarity with Azerbaijan and defended the true voice of Azerbaijan. This attitude reaffirmed that Azerbaijan made the right choice and that it was in Azerbaijan's interests not to join any bloc. Azerbaijan will chair the organization for another year. However, Azerbaijan intends to take an active part in the movement not only during its presidency but also after it."
