Hikmat Hajiyev: Azerbaijan disappointed with Washington's unilateral attitude in normalization process with Armenia

The United States has taken a unilateral attitude in favor of Armenia in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to President of Azerbaijan - head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said in an interview with China's Phoenix, according to Report.

"We are disappointed with certain statements and actions of the United States. They have taken a unilateral attitude with regard to Azerbaijan and they also enacted the 907th Section of the Freedom Support Act. In a sense, it bans the US government's support to Azerbaijan," he said adding that Azerbaijan doesn't need any aid.

"We are not an aid recipient country," he said explaining that the matter is that the section was adopted by the US Congress in 1992 when the Azerbaijani territories were under occupation.

"Imagine that you are a subject to the occupation and the United States Congress adopts a resolution that bans the United States government support to Azerbaijan. But again it's the choice of the United States," he said.

But the issue is that if you are taking unilateral actions, you cannot be a fully impartial party in the negotiation process, Hikmat Hajiyev said.

He noted that Azerbaijan appreciates the proposals of support but in this situation the country does not think there is a need for any mediation.
