Haber Global: Azerbaijan stands firm on its promise regarding Northern Cyprus

Azerbaijan has demonstrated through its stance on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus that monetary considerations do not outweigh values, security policy expert Mete Yarar shared his perspective on Haber Global TV, Report informs.

He explained, Azerbaijan, if it had chosen, could have adopted the same stance as others regarding the Republic of Cyprus and resolved its issues with Europe. However, Azerbaijan chose to stand by its promise.

"There is still no final peace agreement concerning Karabakh. External forces continue to attempt to create divisions and threaten Azerbaijan through other countries. But despite all this, Azerbaijan stands by its promise. I don't believe all 12 billion euros will be allocated to the Central Asian countries. When divided among five countries, each would receive 2 billion euros, and when further divided over ten years, that amounts to around 200 million euros annually. Are values really this cheap?"

Yarar also expressed his disapproval of actions by member states within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), emphasizing the importance of solidarity among brotherly nations:

"We talked about the Turan economic zone and promised to grow together. This issue is not merely about recognizing the Republic of Cyprus; it also involves portraying Türkiye as an occupier. Diplomacy and bilateral relations aside, a brother would not treat another brother this way.

"In what instance has Türkiye failed to support these countries? For years, we remained silent about their lack of recognition for Northern Cyprus. Yet, they have now placed us in a difficult position by recognizing the Republic of Cyprus.

"Why doesn't the Council of Elders of the OTS address this issue? Their primary responsibility is to take a stance on such matters."
