GUAM: No significant irregularities found in Azerbaijan’s elections

No significant irregularities were found in the snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on September 1, Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM), Altay Afandiyev said, Report informs.

Speaking at a press conference on September 2 regarding the election results, Afandiyev stated that GUAM observers were present at various polling stations in the Yasamal, Sabail, and Narimanov districts of Baku.

"According to our observations, the parliamentary elections were organized and conducted in accordance with national legislation. As a group, we believe that conditions were created for citizens in the electoral process. There were also necessary conditions for commission members at the polling stations," he said.

The GUAM Secretary General emphasized, "Our observations show that no significantly noticeable discrepancies were found. Very minor comments were given to commission members, but this has no impact on the election process.”

Afandiyev noted that voters were sufficiently informed, adding, "Voter turnout was quite normal, and in some polling stations, it was even higher."

The GUAM official stressed that the parliamentary elections held by Azerbaijan across its entire territory after years can be called free and fair.
