Group of foreign journalists arrives in Aghdam

A group of foreign journalists who arrived in Azerbaijan to cover the Summit-level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19 has arrived in Aghdam.

According to Report, as part of the visit, the representatives of foreign media will first get acquainted with the demining process in Aghdam, and then visit the civilian facilities, religious, cultural and historical monuments destroyed during the Armenian occupation.

Representatives of foreign media were informed about the Imaret complex. It was noted that one of the historical and architectural buildings of the Aghdam district, which was subjected to Armenian vandalism, is the castle of the founder of the Karabakh Khanate Panakhali Khan.

Araz Imanov, adviser to the Special Presidential Representation in the Karabakh Economic Region (with the exception of the Shusha region), noted that most of the historical monuments in this territory no longer exist, they have been destroyed. Then he invited the journalists to walk around the complex and witness the Armenian vandalism themselves.

Foreign journalists also visited the Juma Mosque, the Alley of Martyrs and the Drama Theater.

At the Juma Mosque, Araz Imanov demonstrated the photos of how this mosque looked before the restoration.

"During the occupation, many mosques located on the territory of Karabakh were destroyed. Some of them were used for other purposes. For example, surveillance was conducted from minarets. Cattle and pigs were kept in some mosques," he said.

Foreign journalists also got acquainted with the progress of restoration work in the Aghdam district and visited the Congress Center of the city of Aghdam.

Imanov told foreign media representatives about the work carried out in the liberated territories, adding that the international airport in Fuzuli was built in just 8 months, including the clearing of mines from that territory: "These construction works went faster than expected, because people waited 30 years to return back to their territories and start rebuilding what was destroyed."
