Governor General of Canada congratulates Ilham Aliyev

Governor General of Canada Mary May Simon has sent a congratulatory letter to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Independence Day, Report informs referring to AzerTac.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I congratulate you and your fellow citizens on the anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Canada is determined to continue strengthening its bonds with Azerbaijan, including our people-to-people ties built by the vibrant Azerbaijani-Canadian community. Our positive bilateral relationship is bolstered by our dedication to addressing the most pressing challenges of our time, such as women's empowerment, global security and environmental stewardship. Furthermore, Canada strongly believes in the value of democratic growth and prosperity in fostering peace in the South Caucasus.

Canada looks forward to Azerbaijan hosting COP29 later this year and is committed to further developing its relationship with Azerbaijan as we all strive for a better future for our citizens.

On this day of celebration, I wish you and the people of Azerbaijan the very best in the coming year," reads the letter.
