In 2022, when there were disruptions in Russian gas supplies, Azerbaijan took on the commitment to provide Germany with the necessary volumes, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said during a joint press statement with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 2 in Baku, Report informs.
He reminded about the history of relations between the countries, noting that German winemakers made a significant contribution to the development of this agricultural sector, and German companies participated in oil production and the creation of the energy system.
"Many Germans lived in Azerbaijan. It is very important to address our history," said the president, emphasizing that historical ties are very important for understanding the current relations between the countries.
Steinmeier noted that there is great interest in Azerbaijan in learning the German language and getting education in Germany: "Therefore, we should expand our cooperation in educational and scientific fields."
The German president also pointed to the prospects for economic cooperation and the commitment of both countries to the norms of international law.
