Georgian expert: Silk Road Forum can help find common ground between Baku and Yerevan

The Silk Road Forum to be held in Tbilisi on October 26–27 can help find common ground for the development of economic relations, especially transport and logistics projects between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Shota Apkhaidze, the director of the Center for Islamic Studies of the Caucasus, told Report.

"This forum will serve as another platform for the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations," the expert said.

Apkhaidze emphasized that the declaration of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's participation in this event shows that Yerevan is interested in implementing regional economic projects.

The political scientist also said that the moderators of the forum are, in addition to the Georgian side, representatives of the broadcasting corporations of China, the BBC, and the Bloomberg agencies of the UK.

In this regard, Giga Bedineishvili, Dean, Business School, Free University of Tbilisi, said: "I’m very glad that the forum is taking place and the high delegations from Azerbaijan and Armenia are joining it. I really hope that the trilateral ties between Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan intensify. If that happens, I see a huge boost to the regional economy. With the illegal occupation of Karabakh behind us, I see no insurmountable obstacle to lasting peace in the South Caucasus. I’m very optimistic for the region's future under the conditions of equal partnership between the three countries."
