Georgian ambassador: Azerbaijan has successfully implemented a number of strategically important projects

Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia are rooted in centuries-old friendship, shared values, and common traditions, Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, said during a reception marking Georgia's Independence Day.

Report quotes the ambassador as saying the two countries are successfully developing not only political but also economic cooperation: "In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $1 billion. This makes Azerbaijan one of Georgia’s largest trading partners."

The ambassador emphasized that Azerbaijan has successfully implemented several strategically important projects that have significantly elevated the region's role and relevance.

"These include the Green Energy Corridor cable project under the Black Sea, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, TANAP and TAP, as well as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. As a result of recent upgrades, the railway’s capacity has increased from one to five million tons per year. This is a vivid example of the successful regional cooperation between our countries," the diplomat said.

He noted that the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation will serve as an important tool for deepening economic relations between the two friendly countries.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our friend and strategic partner Azerbaijan and its political leadership for their unwavering support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the ambassador emphasized.

Pataradze noted that now more than ever, there is a pressing need to support peace and stability in the region. He reaffirmed Georgia's full readiness to continue promoting and facilitating regional peace dialogue.

He also stated that today, Georgia is an independent, democratic, and rule-of-law-based state — the result of successful reforms, ongoing democratic transformation, and rapid economic growth. "Georgia is an EU candidate country, and its foreign policy priorities in European and Euro-Atlantic integration contribute to strengthening international security. Georgia is also a country aspiring to NATO membership," Pataradze added.
