The EU should extend its internal principles to the global level in order to become a driving force in world politics, former president of Bosnia and Herzegovina (2014-2018) Mladen Ivanić said at a panel discussion at the 12th Global Baku Forum, Report informs.
He noted that the EU is a complex multilateral structure based on compromise, and has already proven its resilience in the face of many challenges.
However, the question remains whether the union is ready to play a leading role in global processes.
"So far, the EU remains an additional car in a train led by the United States. But the US no longer wants to fulfill this role and has made it clear that they are not interested in it. Now EU leaders face a serious task - to start developing and implementing global rules, rather than simply following others," Ivanić added.
He also noted that China could play an important and positive role in changes at the global level.
