Expert: Paris doesn’t aim to normalize situation in South Caucasus

France doesn’t seek to normalize Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, its goal is to replace Russia in the region, Georgian political scientist Gela Vasadze told Report.

He noted that the modern French authorities and President Macron personally are extremely hostile towards Azerbaijan, and vice versa, they are extremely positive towards Armenia.

“France has hostile relations with Turkiye, Pakistan, very strained relations with Israel, the UK and Italy,” he added.

The political scientist stressed that this trend is observed because these countries have very close ties with Azerbaijan.

“Among other things, France hopes to fill the political vacuum that is being formed in connection with the inevitable imminent withdrawal of Russia from the region,” he said.

According to Vasadze, the recent anti-Azerbaijani resolution of the French Senate will have a negative impact on the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.

“All this is because Paris does not set itself the goal of achieving normalization of the situation in the region, France is aimed at politically replacing Russia in the South Caucasus,” the political scientist concluded.
